The Colorado Constitution at 150 and Why it Matters Since August 1 (Colorado Day), Colorado enters a year of celebration for our 150th year of statehood. But how many Coloradans know we have a state constitution or, if they do, have ever read it? Dr Vandiver introduces us to fierce debates among the Framers of the Colorado Constitution in 1875–76, unique features of our constitution, and why state constitutions are vital to reviving our civic culture. All participants will receive a beautiful Essential Colorado Constitution, sponsored by CU Colorado Springs’ Center for the Study of Government and the Individual (CSGI). This event will be led by Josh Vandiver (Harvard AB, Princeton PhD), an associate professor of Political Science at CU Colorado Springs. He primarily teaches American politics, constitutional law, and Western political theory. He is co-editor of the peer-reviewed Journal for the Study of Radicalism (JSR), the leading international journal devoted exclusively to research on radical leaders, movements, and thinkers on both the Left and the Right. A fifth-generation Southern Coloradan, he was born in La Junta and raised in the town of Swink. In 2025, Dr Vandiver edited The Essential Colorado Constitution, the first pocket-sized edition of the state constitution in our history.
