Event Details:Listening for quantum states This talk describes Cleland Lab's efforts in quantum acoustics, exploring individual itinerant phonons for quantum computing and sensing applications. Using superconducting qubits as deterministic sources and detectors of microwave-frequency phonons, the lab creates individual phonons in mechanical resonators, entangles phonons across separate resonators, transmits quantum states between qubits via phonons, and generates entanglement by sharing "halfphonons" between qubits. Using a single-phonon interferometer, the lab has demonstrated the acoustic version of the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, enabling coherent phase gates; pointing toward a phonon-based architecture for scalable quantum computing.
