Justin Cole, Department of Mathematics, University of Colorado Colorado Springs Numerical simulation of the Ablowitz-Fokas-Musslimani water waves formulation The description of surface gravity waves, especially at large amplitudes, is a challenging problem requiring numerical simulation. A relatively modern formulation of the water wave problem due to Ablowitz, Fokas, and Musslimani (AFM) reformulates the kinematic surface condition in terms of a nonlocal spectral integral. A novel computational approach for time-stepping the AFM water waves formulation will be introduced. Comparison with Stokes traveling waves and well-known reductions, i.e. KdV and NLS, will be presented. Some examples of surface waves propagating over variable bottom topography will be mentioned.
