Please join the Sustainability Research Initiative (SRI) for a day long workshop dedicated to Social & Humanistic Approaches to Sustainability Research. This gathering aims to bring together social science researchers and humanities scholars across campus to highlight interdisciplinary methodologies, build community, and catalyze new collaborations supported by an opportunity for SRI seed grant funding. Date: Friday, September 25, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Breakfast & Lunch provided) Location: Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS), Room 155 Keynote Speakers Dr. Emily Yeh CU Boulder, Professor of Geography Examining power, political economy, and cultural politics in nature-society relationships. Dr. Yeh brings extensive interdisciplinary research on natural resource conflicts, pastoralism, climate vulnerability on the Tibetan Plateau, and global decarbonization politics. Darya Warner United States Air Force Academy Working at the intersection of art and science, Warner explores the creative process and relationships between human and non-human actors through the prism of climate change, including collaborative practices and bio-materials. Programming & Seed Grant Opportunity Feature talks by Darya Warner and Dr. Emily T. Yeh showcasing humanistic and social sustainability models. Optional 3-minute presentations for attendees to share current research, discover cross campus connections, and identify prospective collaborators. We will dedicate time for teams to form and outline initial project ideas. SRI will be offering dedicated seed grants (awarding several $5,000 or two $10,000 grants) to support new transdisciplinary projects emerging directly from this event. Seed Grant Info: To encourage cross-departmental integration, proposal teams must include at least one member from outside the Social Sciences and Humanities. Additionally, the lead PI must attend the workshop in person to be eligible for funding. Seed grants could be used directly for research, student support, artistic outputs, or to support projects that extend beyond traditional research outputs.
