When: Thursday, September 17, 2026 This event is co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. In celebration of Constitution Day, the Benson Center and the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual invite students from across the Front Range to Denver for a lecture by Paul Carrese, Director of the Center for American Civics in the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University. The event is open to students from CU Boulder, UCCS, the Air Force Academy, and other Front Range universities. Speaker: Paul Carrese is Director of the Center for American Civics and a professor in the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University, where he served as founding director from 2016 to 2023. He spent nearly two decades as a professor of political science at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he co-founded an honors program combining liberal arts and leadership education. His teaching and research focus on the American founding, constitutional and political thought, civic education, and American grand strategy. He is the author of Democracy in Moderation: Montesquieu, Tocqueville, and Sustainable Liberalism and The Cloaking of Power: Montesquieu, Blackstone, and the Rise of Judicial Activism, with a new book, Teaching America: Reflective Patriotism in Schools, College, and Culture, forthcoming from Cambridge University Press. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford and has held fellowships at Harvard, Princeton, and the University of Delhi.
